That's a fair review. Directional microphones help in a crowd but nothing worn in the ear solves a loud room with a match on — anyone telling you otherwise is selling. If you haven't tried the noisy-room setting, it's worth a go.

My daughter ordered these for me about six weeks before my grandsons wedding because she said she was fed up of me missing things. I was not convinced and I will be honest I only put them in on the morning to keep the peace. I heard the whole of the best mans speech. I have not heard a speech properly in years, normally I sit and laugh when everyone else laughs and hope for the best. The volume was fine straight out of the box, we did not change anything. I used the middle size tips which is what they come fitted with. They were comfortable all day and all evening, I had them in from about nine in the morning until midnight and my ears were not sore. If you are on the fence about it, get them before whatever it is you are dreading, not after.

Four stars rather than five only because of the settling in period, which I do not think is made enough of. Day one and two everything is bright and clattery. By about day six my brain had sorted itself out and since then they have been excellent, I wear them from breakfast until bed. Just do not expect to put them in and be delighted straight away.
