1,287 customers rate it 4.8 out of 5, and 96% give it 4 or 5 stars.
The pattern across the reviews is consistent: it works well in quiet rooms and one-to-one conversation, it works less well in restaurants and crowds, and people who expected clinic-grade performance in noise are the ones who left the low scores. Read the critical reviews before you decide.

Half the price of what the clinic quoted, works fine

I went private first. Two appointments, hearing test, then the man came back with a quote for £2,300 for the pair and started talking me through a payment plan. I said I would think about it and I never went back. Ordered these instead mainly to see what you get for the money. I have had them since April. In the house they are very good, on the phone they are very good, in a restaurant I can hear the person opposite me which is the thing I actually wanted. Am I saying they are the same as the £2,300 pair. I do not know, I never had the £2,300 pair. What I can tell you is these do the job I needed doing.

Stopped me hiding away
Yusuf R. · Verified purchase, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom ·
This is a bit personal but I will put it anyway in case it helps someone. Over about two years I stopped going to things. Not a decision, I just kept finding reasons. Big family gatherings first, then the coffee morning, then I realised I had not had a proper conversation with anyone for a fortnight. It is easier to stay in than to keep asking people to repeat themselves. My son bought me these in May. Took about four days before they felt normal, my own voice sounded odd at first which apparently everyone gets. I rang my sister last week and we were on the phone for over an hour. I have started going back to the Tuesday group. That is all really.

Wore them to my grandsons wedding
Denis White · Verified purchase, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom ·
My daughter ordered these for me about six weeks before my grandsons wedding because she said she was fed up of me missing things. I was not convinced and I will be honest I only put them in on the morning to keep the peace. I heard the whole of the best mans speech. I have not heard a speech properly in years, normally I sit and laugh when everyone else laughs and hope for the best. The volume was fine straight out of the box, we did not change anything. I used the middle size tips which is what they come fitted with. They were comfortable all day and all evening, I had them in from about nine in the morning until midnight and my ears were not sore. If you are on the fence about it, get them before whatever it is you are dreading, not after.

Nobody has noticed and its been four months
Fred F. · Verified purchase, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom ·
The main thing for me was that I did not want the big beige one that sits behind the ear. My brother has those and you can see them from across the room. These sit down inside the ear and my hair is short so I was expecting somebody to say something. Four months now and nobody at the bowls club has said a word. Sound wise they are good, better in a quiet room than a noisy one obviously but I can hear the caller now which I could not before. Charging is easy, they go in the case and the case goes on the side by the kettle. I do it every night. Battery has never run out on me.

Try the other tips before you give up
Denis M. · Verified purchase, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom ·
The size they come fitted with was too small for me and I got a bit of whistling when I put my glasses on. There are spare tips in the packet, three sizes, and swapping them takes about ten seconds, you just pull one off and push the other on. Went up a size and it has been silent since. Worth saying because if I had not tried I would have sent them back thinking they were faulty.

No batteries to fiddle with, thats the main thing
Nadia M. · Verified purchase, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom ·
I have arthritis in both hands and the reason I never got hearing aids before is those tiny batteries. My mother had them and I remember her on the floor looking for one that had rolled off. These have no batteries at all, they sit in a little case and the case plugs in like a phone. I put them in the case last thing at night and they are ready in the morning. I have not touched a battery since March. Getting them into my ear took me about a week to get right, I will not pretend it was easy on day one, but I can do it now without looking in the mirror.

Waste of time for me

Im deaf in one ear, properly deaf, and these did NOTHING for it. Doctor told me afterwards nothing at this price would have. Should have asked first instead of ordering off an advert. Got a refund.

Reply from Certus Hearing
Sorry this wasn't right for you. Certus One is designed for mild to moderate loss. For profound loss on one side you'd be looking at a CROS or bone-conduction device, which has to be fitted by an audiologist — no over-the-counter aid at any price would have helped. Your refund shows as completed.
They are reviews left by customers who bought Certus One and collected after delivery. They appear in full, including negative reviews. Reviews are never paid for, incentivised with a discount, or removed for being critical. The collection and verification process is set out on the how-we-verify page.
What is the average Certus One rating?
4.8 out of 5 across 1287 reviews.
Does Certus One work for severe hearing loss?
No. Certus One is for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss in adults 18 and over. It is not suitable for severe or profound loss, single-sided deafness, and anyone under 18. The low-star reviews on this site are mostly from people whose loss was outside that range, and anyone with sudden or one-sided hearing loss should see a doctor rather than buy any over-the-counter device.
How much does Certus One cost in United Kingdom?
£149.99 for a pair, against a compare-at price of £259.99. It comes with a 90-day home trial and a 2-year warranty.
Is Certus One a hearing aid or an amplifier?
It is a rechargeable in-canal device intended for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss, the same use case the FDA's over-the-counter hearing aid category covers. It is not a prescription device and it is not fitted by an audiologist.
Can I return it if it does not work for me?
Yes, within the 90-day home trial. Several reviewers on this site describe returning theirs, and those reviews are still published.
