1,287 customers rate it 4.8 out of 5, and 96% give it 4 or 5 stars.
The pattern across the reviews is consistent: it works well in quiet rooms and one-to-one conversation, it works less well in restaurants and crowds, and people who expected clinic-grade performance in noise are the ones who left the low scores. Read the critical reviews before you decide.
Is Certus Hearing a real company?
Yes. Certus Hearing sells the Certus One direct to consumers through its online store.

There is no national hearing aid programme. Ontario's ADP pays C$500 per aid, Alberta and Quebec run their own schemes, and British Columbia has no broad adult coverage at all.

HearingLife wanted $169 a month. That's $6,084.

I went in for the free test. Nice enough people. What I came out with was a payment plan, $169 a month, and it wasn't until I was in the car that I did the arithmetic. Their own agreement is 36 months. That's $6,084 for a pair of hearing aids. I'm in BC so there's no program for someone my age, no federal coverage, and my extended health tops out at a few hundred dollars. I priced Costco after that, which was far more reasonable, and then I found these and tried them first because of the return window. At home very good, on the phone very good, in a restaurant I can hear the person across from me. I never went back to do the $6,084.

I'd stopped going to things
Richard O. ยท Verified purchase, ๐จ๐ฆ Canada ยท
This is a bit personal but I'll put it in case it helps somebody. Over about two years I stopped going out. Not a decision, I just kept finding reasons. The big family things first, then coffee, and then I realized I hadn't had a proper conversation with anyone in two weeks. It's easier to stay home than keep asking people to repeat themselves. My son got me these in May. Took about four days before it felt normal, your own voice sounds strange at first, apparently everybody gets that. Called my sister last week and we were on for over an hour.

Wore them to my grandson's wedding
Denis White ยท Verified purchase, ๐จ๐ฆ Canada ยท
My daughter ordered these about six weeks before my grandson's wedding because she was tired of me missing half of everything. I wasn't convinced and honestly I only put them in that morning to keep the peace. I heard the whole best man's speech. I haven't managed that in years, normally you laugh when everyone else laughs and hope for the best. Volume was fine right out of the box, we didn't change anything. Middle tips, which is what's already fitted. Comfortable from nine in the morning until midnight and my ears weren't sore. If you're putting it off, get them before the thing you're dreading, not after.

Four months at the Legion, nobody's noticed
Fred F. ยท Verified purchase, ๐จ๐ฆ Canada ยท
The whole thing for me was not wanting the big beige one behind the ear. My brother has those and you can spot them across the room. These sit down in the ear and my hair is short, so I figured somebody would say something. Four months and not a word. Sound is good, better in a quiet room than a noisy one obviously, but I can hear the caller at bingo now which I couldn't before. Charging is easy, they go in the case on the counter.

Try the other tips before you give up
Maureen T. ยท Verified purchase, ๐จ๐ฆ Canada ยท
The size they come fitted with was too small for me and I got some whistle when I put my glasses on. There are spare tips in the packet, three sizes, and swapping takes about ten seconds. Went up a size and it's been silent since. Worth saying because I would have sent them back thinking they were defective.

No batteries, that was the reason
Len H. ยท Verified purchase, ๐จ๐ฆ Canada ยท
I have arthritis in both hands and the reason I never got hearing aids is those tiny batteries. My mother had them and I remember her on the floor looking for one that rolled off. These have none, they sit in a little case and the case plugs in like a phone. In at night, ready in the morning. Haven't touched a battery since March. Took me about a week to get them in properly, I won't pretend day one was easy. I can do it without the mirror now.

Waste of time for me
Deborah W. ยท Verified purchase, ๐จ๐ฆ Canada ยท
Im deaf in one ear, properly deaf, and these did NOTHING for it. Doctor told me afterwards nothing at this price would have. Should have asked first instead of ordering off an advert. Got a refund.

Reply from Certus Hearing
Sorry this wasn't right for you. Certus One is designed for mild to moderate loss. For profound loss on one side you'd be looking at a CROS or bone-conduction device, which has to be fitted by an audiologist โ no over-the-counter aid at any price would have helped. Your refund shows as completed.
They are reviews left by customers who bought Certus One and collected after delivery. They appear in full, including negative reviews. Reviews are never paid for, incentivised with a discount, or removed for being critical. The collection and verification process is set out on the how-we-verify page.
What is the average Certus One rating?
4.8 out of 5 across 1287 reviews.
Does Certus One work for severe hearing loss?
No. Certus One is for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss in adults 18 and over. It is not suitable for severe or profound loss, single-sided deafness, and anyone under 18. The low-star reviews on this site are mostly from people whose loss was outside that range, and anyone with sudden or one-sided hearing loss should see a doctor rather than buy any over-the-counter device.
How much does Certus One cost in Canada?
$279.99 for a pair, against a compare-at price of $479.99. It comes with a 90-day home trial and a 2-year warranty.
Is Certus One a hearing aid or an amplifier?
It is a rechargeable in-canal device intended for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss, the same use case the FDA's over-the-counter hearing aid category covers. It is not a prescription device and it is not fitted by an audiologist.
Can I return it if it does not work for me?
Yes, within the 90-day home trial. Several reviewers on this site describe returning theirs, and those reviews are still published.
