She is 88 and in a home since January. The staff had told us she was withdrawing, not joining in with anything, and we assumed that was where things were going. She has quite bad hearing and had refused hospital aids twice because of the batteries and the tubes. These have no batteries, they live in a little case, and a carer puts them in for her at breakfast. Six weeks later she is going to the singing afternoon and eating in the dining room rather than her room. I am not going to claim a pair of hearing aids fixed everything. I will say that a lot of what we had put down to her age turned out to be that she could not hear the person next to her.
