Everything is too loud and none of it is the thing you wanted to hear. The kettle, the tap, a newspaper being folded, your own feet on the stairs. I nearly packed them up on the second evening. What actually happens is your brain stops flagging all of it up, and for me that took about four days. If somebody had told me that at the start I would have saved myself a lot of doubt.
